Esha Deol Denies Rumors of Dharmendra’s Death, Urges Prayers for His Recovery
The report stated that the 89-year-old actor had been facing respiratory issues and had been hospitalized last week as well.
MUMBAI: Reports of the death of legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra circulated widely across Indian media on Tuesday, causing confusion and concern among fans. However, his daughter Esha Deol has strongly denied the reports, confirming that her father is alive and requesting privacy for the family.
According to a report by India Today, Dharmendra’s team had allegedly confirmed his passing early Tuesday morning, claiming that the veteran actor died at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, where he had been admitted and placed on a ventilator. The report stated that the 89-year-old actor had been facing respiratory issues and had been hospitalized last week as well.
Prominent journalist Rajdeep Sardesai and lyricist Javed Akhtar were among those who initially expressed grief over the reports of Dharmendra’s death, further fueling speculation.
However, Esha Deol swiftly took to Instagram to dismiss the rumors, expressing anger over the spread of false news. “I request everyone to respect our family’s privacy and pray for my father’s complete recovery,” she wrote.

Dharmendra, who began his illustrious career in 1960 with Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere, is regarded as one of Indian cinema’s most beloved and versatile actors. Over his six-decade career, he starred in several iconic films, including Sholay, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Phool Aur Patthar, and Naukar Biwi Ka.
In 2012, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third-highest civilian award, for his contributions to cinema.
Born Dharmendra Kewal Krishna Deol in Ludhiana, Punjab, the actor married Prakash Kaur in 1954 and later wed actress Hema Malini.
Even at 89, Dharmendra remains active on social media, often sharing videos promoting healthy living, farming, and positivity with his fans. His upcoming film, Akis, is scheduled for release on December 25.
