Pakistan to Introduce New Passport Design with Enhanced Security Features
When asked about potential fee increases, the spokesperson said no final decision has been made yet.
ISLAMABAD – The Immigration and Passport Department has decided to update the design and security features of Pakistan’s passports.
The new passports will include the mother’s name alongside the father’s name and will feature images of historical and cultural landmarks from different provinces on the visa pages.
According to department spokesperson Ahmed Iqbal, work on the updated design and advanced security features is underway and has already received approval from the Ministry of Interior. He added that the colors of visa pages will be changed, and under modern e-passport technology, biometric data will be linked with NADRA’s system.

The upgraded passports will also incorporate advanced security measures, including holograms, laser engraving, UV watermarks, and digital verification codes to prevent forgery.
When asked about potential fee increases, the spokesperson said no final decision has been made yet. NADRA has also clarified that the old B-Form will no longer be accepted for passports, and digital identity documents will be mandatory for registering children.
The department emphasized that recent fake images circulating on social media showing changes to the passport’s front cover were false. The front cover will remain the same; only the security features are being enhanced.
Pakistan introduced machine-readable passports in 2004, updated security features in 2016, and launched e-passports in 2022. The 2025 update will bring comprehensive changes to both the design and the security system of the passports.
