South Africa’s Tazmin Brits Sets New World Record in ICC Women’s World Cup

Tazmin Brits scored a magnificent 101 runs, hitting 15 boundaries and a six, while Sune Luus remained unbeaten on 83.

ISLAMABAD: In a thrilling ICC Women’s World Cup match on Monday, South African batter Tazmin Brits broke a new world record while helping her team defeat New Zealand by 6 wickets.

The match, played at Indore, saw New Zealand bat first and get all out for 231 runs in the 48th over. Sophie Devine led the Kiwi innings with a brilliant 85 runs, including 9 boundaries, while Brooke Halliday contributed 45 runs.

Chasing the target, South Africa’s women’s team successfully reached 232 runs in the 41st over with the loss of 4 wickets, thanks to outstanding batting performances by Tazmin Brits and Sune Luus.

With this century, Brits set a new world record for the most One Day International (ODI) centuries by a woman in a calendar year. This was Brits’ fifth ODI century in 2025 and her seventh overall in her career.

Previously, the record for most ODI centuries in a calendar year was held by India’s Smriti Mandhana, who scored four centuries in 2024 and this year.

Brits’ remarkable achievement adds to the excitement of the ongoing Women’s World Cup and cements her status as one of the top players in international women’s cricket.
