Israel shuts main West Bank-Jordan crossing amid ongoing Gaza assault
Key crossing shuts indefinitely after a deadly attack, as violence in Gaza displaces more families and claims lives.
Israeli – (Specail Correspondent / Web Desk) – On Tuesday, Israeli officials announced they will close the Allenby Bridge crossing for an unknown period. This bridge is the main travel link between the West Bank and Jordan. The closure will stop all passenger and goods traffic starting Wednesday morning.
The decision comes just one days after the crossing was reopened. It had been shut down for four days following a deadly attack that killed two Israelis. The person responsible was driving a humanitarian aid truck from Jordan and was killed at the scene.

While Israel has not given an official reason for the new closure, Israeli Army Radio suggested it may be a reaction to several Western countries recently recognizing the State of Palestine. This crossing is also a key route used by senior Palestinian leaders.
Meanwhile, the military assault on Gaza City continues to grow more intense. Heavy shelling and ground attacks are causing civilian deaths and damaging homes and businesses.
Palestinian medical sources report that 26 people have been killed since Tuesday morning, with 18 of those deaths in Gaza City. Israeli tanks are now very close to the main hospital in the city. People who live there describe nights of intense, non-stop shelling that has turned their neighborhoods into ghost towns.

This has led to a new wave of people being forced to flee their homes. Many families are trying to move from Gaza City toward central and southern areas for safety. One father of three described waiting for days to find a truck to escape the violence. The total number of people killed in Gaza since the conflict began has risen to over 65,000.
