Three Pakistan Navy Commodores Elevated to Rear Admiral Rank

The promotions mark a significant moment in the careers of these accomplished officers

ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Navy has announced the promotion of three senior officers to the rank of Rear Admiral. Commodore Muhammad Shahnawaz Khan, Commodore Asim Sohail Malik, and Commodore Sohail Ahmad Azmie have all been elevated in recognition of their distinguished service.

Rear Admiral Muhammad Shahnawaz Khan

Commissioned in 1993 into the Supply Branch, Rear Admiral Shahnawaz Khan has had a highly accomplished naval career. He is a graduate of the Pakistan Navy War College, Lahore, and the National Defence University, Islamabad. His previous appointments include key roles such as Commanding Officer General Stores Depot, Commanding Officer PNS RAZA, Director Procurement (Navy), and Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Education). He has also served as Directing Staff at the Pakistan Navy War College and currently holds the position of Director General Munitions Production at the Ministry of Defence Production.

Rear Admiral Asim Sohail Malik

Commissioned into the Operations Branch in 1995, Rear Admiral Asim Sohail Malik brings with him extensive operational and strategic experience. A graduate of the Pakistan Navy War College, NDU Islamabad, and international defense institutions in Bangladesh and China, he has held important positions such as Commanding Officer of PNS ZARRAR and PNS SHAMSHEER, Commander 9 Auxiliary and Mine Warfare Squadron, and Chief Staff Officer to Commander Pakistan Fleet. He has also served as Commander Combined Task Force 150 at the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF) in Bahrain. Rear Admiral Malik is presently serving as Director General C4I at Naval Headquarters, Islamabad.

Rear Admiral Sohail Ahmad Azmie

Rear Admiral Azmie, commissioned into the Operations Branch in 1996, is an alumnus of the Britannia Royal Naval College in the UK, Pakistan Navy War College, and NDU Islamabad. His prior roles include Commanding Officer of PNS NASR, Commandant of the Pakistan Naval Academy, and Commander AUXMIN – 9 Squadron. He has also held the post of Commander Combined Task Force 151 at CMF Bahrain. Currently, he serves as Commander Central Punjab and Commandant of the Pakistan Navy War College, Lahore.

National Recognition

In acknowledgment of their meritorious services to the Pakistan Navy, all three officers have been conferred with the Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military).
