Federal Govt Stands Firm with Gilgit-Baltistan in Flood Recovery: Amir Muqam

Federal Minister Engr. Amir Muqam Visits Gilgit-Baltistan on PM's Special Directive

Gilgit: Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan, and SAFRON, Engineer Amir Muqam, has arrived in Gilgit on a three-day official visit to assess the flood-affected areas of the region. The visit is being conducted on the special directive of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, who is closely monitoring the flood situation and relief efforts.

Upon his arrival at Gilgit Airport, the federal minister was warmly received by senior government officials, including Provincial Minister Engineer Muhammad Anwar, Commissioner Gilgit, and Secretary Zafar Hasan, along with prominent PML-N leaders and youth representatives.

During his visit, Engineer Amir Muqam inspected flood-hit areas and ongoing relief operations. He visited the Provincial Emergency Control Room, where he was briefed by Chief Secretary Gilgit-Baltistan Abrar Ahmed Mirza, Home Secretary Ali Asghar, and DG of the Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority. The federal minister praised the coordination between federal and provincial agencies and assured full support from the federal government.

One of the most emotional moments of the tour was his visit to Danyore-Manogah, where seven volunteers tragically lost their lives during a relief effort when debris fell on them. Amir Muqam paid tribute to the martyrs, offered condolences to the bereaved families, and announced financial assistance of Rs. 2 million per family from the federal government. He also pledged that memorials or centers would be established in their names to honor their sacrifices.

In addition, the federal minister visited the residence of former Chief Minister Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman to offer condolences on the untimely death of his nephew, Daniyal Saif. He expressed deep sorrow and prayed for the departed soul’s forgiveness and for strength for the bereaved family.

Amir Muqam also met with the Gilgit-Baltistan Women’s Wing delegation of PML-N, led by Sarwat Saba and other senior female leaders. The meeting focused on strengthening women’s role in politics, local challenges, and grassroots mobilization strategies. The minister acknowledged their dedication and reaffirmed PML-N’s commitment to women’s empowerment as envisioned by Nawaz Sharif and PM Shehbaz Sharif.

Furthermore, the federal minister held a significant meeting with GB Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan at the CM House. The two leaders discussed the recent floods, relief operations, and federal-provincial coordination. Amir Muqam emphasized that ensuring the safety and welfare of GB’s residents remains a top priority and reiterated that all available resources are being mobilized.

“The people of Gilgit-Baltistan are not alone in this difficult time,” said Engineer Amir Muqam. “The federal government stands with them shoulder-to-shoulder and will leave no stone unturned to support recovery efforts.”
