ISLAMABAD (Mudassar Chaudhary) –
Mohsin Naqvi, was appointed as Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Division on 11 March 2024, in view of his tremendous and impressive performance as Chief Minister Punjab and was awarded with the title of “Mohsin Speed” due to his landmark development projects which he completed in Punjab in a very record time.
His tenure as Minister for Interior and Narcotics Division demonstrates a well focused strategy on institutional coordination, public security, intelligence modernization, and symbolic leadership appearances. I have tried to sum up his notable initiatives and contributions till August 2025 which are as under;
1. Enhancing Institutional Coordination and Service Delivery
A hallmark of Mohsin Naqvi’s leadership has been efforts to bridge operational gaps among Ministry of Interior and its departments. Under his direction, a significant meeting was held on 11 June 2025, during which he stressed the importance of cooperation across varied agencies ranging from NADRA, FIA, Anti-Narcotics Control, Police, forces, CDA, ICT, Immigration, Cybercrime units, to frontier corps. Officers were urged to optimize the use of shared human and informational resources, while nominations to training programs were to be merit based.
Just a month earlier, on 18 July 2025, he issued a directive for all departments to propose amendments to improve coordination and service efficiency. Those proposals were meant for paving the way for a comprehensive plan to elevate public service performance on fast track on the basis of best of best national and international standards and practices.
These steps signal a leadership vision grounded in institutional synergy and responsiveness key drivers for enhanced governance.
2. Strengthening Security and Counterterrorism
Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Division Minister Naqvi placed strong emphasis on operational readiness and morale within the security apparatus:
• On March 8, 2025, he commended security forces for a successful intelligence-led operation in Tank District, safeguarding citizens by neutralizing militants with professionalism.
• In July 2024, he carried out an aerial security assessment of the 9th Muharram procession in Islamabad, issuing comprehensive directives to ensure public safety through coordinated deployment of police, snipers, and contingency measures like drones prohibition.
• Earlier, on 24 November 2024, he conducted aerial surveillance over Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Attock to evaluate security arrangements and reaffirmed that no disruptions to peace and order would be tolerated.
• Further showing strong will and encouragement for law enforcement agencies, Mohsin Naqvi made an early-morning morale-boosting visit to police lines, urging officers to uphold law, wear protective gear, and prepare for all scenarios.
Collectively, these actions reflect a commitment to proactive oversight, threat mitigation, and empowerment of frontline personnel.
3. Advancing Intelligence Integration: NIFTAC
One of the most significant institutional developments during Mohsin Naqvi’s tenure is the approval and inauguration of the National Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centre (NIFTAC). The Centre was endorsed during a 5 April 2025 NACTA board meeting (chaired by Mohsin Naqvi), and the facility was inaugurated on 6 May 2025 by the Honourable Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
NIFTAC aims to unify over 50 federal and provincial agencies into a centralized hub for intelligence sharing, threat assessment, and coordinated action. Its complementary provincial units—PIFTACs—extend this network across Pakistan’s six provincial regions, including AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan.
This is a structural leap towards establishing a cohesive national counterterrorism intelligence apparatus potentially transformative for internal security management.
4. Successful Diplomatic Outreach
Beyond internal governance, Federal Minister for Interior and Narcotics Divisions, Mohsin Naqvi has maintained a visible and effective presence in diplomatic and public spheres:
• On the diplomatic front, he engaged with several foreign counterparts: including meetings with the UK Deputy Foreign Minister, Saudi Interior Ministry officials, and Turkish and Hungarian interior ministers highlighting Pakistan’s openness to security-related collaboration.
• His outreach extended to promoting soft power and community relations, such as inviting the US Acting Ambassador to attend Jashn-e-Baharan.
These gestures promote both internal unity and broader international cooperation on governance and security.
Under the dynamic leadership of Federal Interior Minister and Narcotics Divisions, Mohsin Naqvi’ through August 2025 can be characterized by:
• A strong drive to enhance institutional coordination and accountability.
• Strategic investments in public security and frontline morale.
• Structural innovation with the launch of NIFTAC and its provincial counterparts.
• Symbolic and substantive diplomatic engagements.
While challenge such as political tensions, security complexities, and managing institutional expectations—persist, Mohsin Naqvi’s multi-pronged approach marks a concerted effort toward strengthening internal security frameworks and public service delivery in Pakistan 🇵🇰.
