Rahul Gandhi Slams BJP, EC Over Fake Votes and Rigged Elections
Indian Election Commission Accused of Bias; Rahul Gandhi, Opposition Tear Into BJP's "Fake Democracy"
New Delhi: India’s opposition parties have launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Election Commission, accusing both of undermining democracy through electoral fraud and voter manipulation.
At a joint press conference held at Delhi’s Constitution Club, leaders from the Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Samajwadi Party, and other opposition groups alleged that the BJP has “hijacked” the democratic process using fake voter lists and state machinery. The opposition claimed that the Election Commission has become a “political weapon” of the ruling party.
According to The Telegraph India, opposition parties stated that the Election Commission deliberately conducts elections using fraudulent voter lists to ensure victory for the Modi government.
Rahul Gandhi’s Allegations
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of staying in power through fake votes. During his ongoing Vot Adhikar Yatra, he claimed that over 100,000 fake voters were registered, but instead of acting against the fraud, the Election Commission demanded an affidavit from him.
“They are responsible. They committed the theft. But I’m the one being asked to justify myself,” Gandhi said, calling for the Commission to be held accountable before the nation.

TMC Demands Dissolution of Lok Sabha
Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra described the creation of fake voter lists as a “serious criminal offense.” She called for legal action against former election commissioners and demanded the immediate dissolution of the Lok Sabha.
Widespread Irregularities Reported
Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee accused the Election Commission of orchestrating systematic election rigging. Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav revealed that over 18,000 names were deleted from the voter list during the 2022 elections alone.
Opposition leaders claimed voter list irregularities in multiple states, including instances where names of deceased individuals were found on the rolls.
Unified Opposition Demand
In a unified statement, opposition parties declared that any future government formed by the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) would take strict action against biased election commissioners and restore faith in the democratic process.
