Azerbaijan’s Deputy Defence Minister Meets PAF Chief to Boost Bilateral Defence Cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Agil Gurbanov, Deputy Minister and Director General of Defence, Azerbaijan, called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force, during a high-level visit to Air Headquarters in Islamabad.

The meeting marked a significant step in strengthening defence ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan, with both sides engaging in detailed discussions on mutual areas of interest, including military training, modernization, and technical collaboration.

Welcoming the Azerbaijani delegation, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu emphasized the strong religious, cultural, and historical bonds that form the foundation of the brotherly relations between the two nations. He briefed the visiting dignitaries on PAF’s ongoing modernization efforts, operational goals, and future-ready force structure, while reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to support Azerbaijan in capacity-building and professional development of its Air Force.

Gurbanov praised the professionalism of PAF personnel and acknowledged Pakistan’s significant achievements in aerospace technology and indigenization. He expressed Azerbaijan’s deep interest in expanding military cooperation, especially in joint training and knowledge-sharing initiatives. Highlighting the importance of bilateral exercises, he stated that such collaboration would enhance interoperability, shared learning, and operational excellence.

The Azerbaijani Deputy Minister also showed a strong inclination toward Multi-Domain Operations (MDO) and expressed interest in learning from PAF’s rich operational experience in this area. He noted Azerbaijan’s plans to overhaul its military training system and identified Pakistan as a key partner in that transformative journey.

The visit reflects the growing strategic partnership between Pakistan and Azerbaijan and reaffirms their joint commitment to promoting regional peace, security, and military cooperation.
