Chief Minister Orders Fast Aid and Treatment After Gilgit Tragedy
Gilgit – (Special – Correspondent / Web Desk)— At least eight volunteers lost their lives and three were injured on Monday when a massive landslide struck during repair work at the flood-damaged Danyor Nullah in Gilgit.
According to officials, the volunteers were fixing a water channel damaged by recent floods when tons of mud and rocks suddenly slid down, burying several workers under the debris.
The deceased have been identified as Piyar Ali, Naik Alam, Adam Ali, Azharuddin, Afaq Azhar, Azhar, and Dildar Hussain. Injured victims include Aziz Aman and Anwar, while two others suffered minor injuries.
Police and rescue teams quickly reached the scene, managing to pull four people from the rubble in critical condition. Emergency operations are still underway as authorities and locals work together to search for more trapped victims.

“The sacrifices of these brave volunteers will always be remembered. The government stands with their families in this time of grief,” CM Gulbar Khan said.
Monsoon devastation continues
The tragedy comes amid a devastating monsoon season across Pakistan, which has triggered urban flooding, flash floods, and landslides, claiming over 260 lives nationwide. Gilgit-Baltistan has been among the worst-hit regions.
Last month, CM Gulbar Khan revealed that intense rains in the region had already killed 10 people and injured four, destroying over 300 houses and damaging 200 more. Around 30–40% of water channels and up to 20 km of roads were also damaged.
