Federal Minister takes notice of damage to Katas Raj Temple
Islamabad(News desk ) The revered Katas Raj Temple in Chakwal, a testament to Pakistan’s rich multicultural past, is facing significant structural threats due to relentless monsoon rains, prompting urgent intervention by the federal government.
Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi, has expressed deep concern over recent reports highlighting damage to the centuries-old complex. Heavy rainfall has led to widespread water infiltration and flooding, which has compromised parts of the ancient temple’s foundation, sparking fears over its long-term preservation.
In response, Minister Khichi has directed the Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) and other relevant bodies to provide a detailed assessment of the situation. “Katas Raj Temple is not just a religious site but a symbol of our collective heritage,” the minister stated. “The government stands fully committed to restoring and protecting this invaluable cultural landmark.”
Officials have begun evaluating the extent of the damage and formulating emergency restoration plans. Restoration efforts are expected to be launched promptly, reflecting the urgency of preserving this historic monument.
Located in the scenic Salt Range of Punjab, the Katas Raj Temple complex is a sacred site dedicated to Lord Shiva and is famed for its tranquil pond—said in Hindu mythology to have originated from Lord Shiva’s tears. It attracts both pilgrims and heritage enthusiasts from within Pakistan and abroad, symbolizing interfaith harmony and historical depth.
