Suspended Opposition MPAs to Cast Votes in Senate Elections, Clarifies Punjab Assembly Secretariat
The Punjab Assembly Secretariat issued a formal clarification on Monday, affirming the voting rights of these members.
LAHORE (Asif Iqbal)- Despite their suspension, 26 opposition lawmakers of the Punjab Assembly will be allowed to vote in the upcoming Senate elections scheduled for July 21. The Punjab Assembly Secretariat issued a formal clarification on Monday, affirming the voting rights of these members.
The clarification comes in the wake of ambiguity surrounding the participation of the suspended members, who were penalized on June 27 for their unruly conduct and use of abusive language during the budget session. The suspension barred them from attending 15 consecutive sittings of the Assembly.
However, the Secretariat confirmed that while disciplinary action remains in effect, it does not infringe upon the constitutional right of elected members to vote in the Senate elections.
This decision is expected to have a significant impact on the Senate polling dynamics, with all 26 opposition MPAs now eligible to cast their votes for their party’s candidates.
