YouTube is finally ditching its Trending section, but what will replace it?

YouTube is getting rid of its Trending page, nearly ten years after it launched. The company says the way people discover content has changed, and the old format no longer makes sense.

Back in 2015, Trending was a simple way to see what was popular on the platform. A single list showed the most talked-about videos across the internet. But now, YouTube says trends are more scattered. Viewers follow different creators, topics and communities. Viral moments appear through Shorts, search suggestions, comments and personalised recommendations.

As a result, YouTube says fewer people are visiting the Trending page. In fact, traffic has dropped sharply over the past five years. So, in the coming weeks, the platform will remove both the Trending tab and the “Trending Now” list.

Taking its place is YouTube Charts. This section highlights popular content by category, such as Trending Music Videos, Weekly Top Podcast Shows, Trending Movie Trailers and gaming content. YouTube says it will add more categories in the future.

The company believes personalised recommendations are now the best way to help users find what they like. These suggestions show a wider variety of popular videos that feel more relevant to each viewer.

Still, users can explore general content in other ways. The Explore tab, subscription feed and creator channels will remain available for browsing.

Creators also have new tools to track what their audience enjoys. The YouTube Studio “Inspiration” tab gives insights into current trends. For those looking to grow faster, YouTube suggests trying “Hype”, a paid feature that promotes up-and-coming creators.

In short, YouTube is moving away from a single list of what’s popular. Instead, it is focusing on helping users discover trends in ways that match how they already watch content.
