Senator Shamim Afridi Alleges Son’s Death Was Murder, Not Accident; Demands Justice

Senator Afridi further revealed that the same night, his other son Amjad Afridi, along with domestic staff, was arrested.

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Senator Shamim Afridi has alleged that the death of his son, former Senator Abbas Khan Afridi, was not the result of a gas explosion but a premeditated and calculated murder. Speaking at a press conference held at the National Press Club Islamabad, Afridi called the incident a deep-rooted conspiracy against his family and demanded a thorough investigation.

Rejecting the official narrative, Senator Afridi stated that the police and administration’s claim of a gas-related accident was entirely false, as no gas facility existed at the site of the incident. He pointed out that a dangerous liquid chemical, known to be available in the area, could cause a deadly explosion if ignited in a confined space. He emphasized that the explosion occurred just 15 minutes after Abbas Afridi entered the guest room, where he suffered severe injuries and passed away the next day.

Senator Afridi further revealed that the same night, his other son Amjad Afridi, along with domestic staff, was arrested. He condemned the manner in which Amjad was presented in court with his face covered “like a terrorist,” despite being known for his development work and public service in Kohat.

Criticizing the authorities for failing to register an FIR even after weeks, Afridi demanded that the government intervene and ensure justice for his family. He urged an impartial investigation into what he termed a “cold-blooded murder” and called for accountability of those responsible for the cover-up.
