Islamabad — Pakistan’s exports of furnace oil have shown a remarkable year-on-year increase during the ongoing fiscal year, despite a sharp monthly decline in overall petroleum product exports in May 2025, according to a report aired by a private news channel.
In May 2025 alone, Pakistan exported 147,000 liters of furnace oil, while the broader category of petroleum product exports saw a 39% decline during the same month. The country also imported 164,000 tons of petroleum, oil, and lubricants (POL) products in May, reflecting the continuing reliance on energy imports.
However, on a broader scale, the export of furnace oil has surged by 63% in the first eleven months of the fiscal year 2024–25, compared to the previous year. Pakistan exported 1.368 million tons of furnace oil during this period, a significant jump from the 83,800 tons exported in FY 2023–24.
Despite a 13% decrease in the export of naphtha during May 2025, 17,000 tons of naphtha were still shipped overseas. On a cumulative basis, Pakistan has witnessed a 37% increase in the export of POL products over the first eleven months of the fiscal year.

The total export volume of POL products reached 1.742 million tons during July 2024 to May 2025, indicating stronger international demand and improved domestic refinery output.
The data highlights Pakistan’s shifting energy trade dynamics, with furnace oil exports playing a growing role in the country’s external energy portfolio amid fluctuating global fuel markets.
