Rawalpindi Women University Hosts Successful Second Annual Sports Gala

Dr. Anila Kamal thanked Shazia Rizwan for taking time out of her busy schedule to encourage the students.

Rawalpindi — The second Annual Sports Gala at Rawalpindi Women University concluded with a vibrant and exciting ceremony, with Member of Provincial Assembly and Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Culture, Mrs. Shazia Rizwan, attending as the chief guest.

During the event, students from various departments of Rawalpindi Women University showcased impressive performances, including a march-past, aerobics, and martial arts displays.

The Sports Gala, organized by the Sports Society, took place from April 18 to 22 and featured competitions in badminton, table tennis, tug of war, ludo, races, lemon spoon race, and chess. Students, faculty, administration, and staff participated enthusiastically in the events.

In her address, Shazia Rizwan emphasized that under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister, Mrs. Maryam Nawaz, the government is taking effective measures to empower women in every field. She also assured full support for the enhancement of sports facilities at Rawalpindi Women University.

Professor Dr. Anila Kamal, Vice Chancellor of Rawalpindi Women University, stated that the university is actively working towards empowering its students in every field, as envisioned by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. She highlighted that the university’s policies, coaching, and investments in sports have led to achievements such as blind student Shumaila Kiran being selected for the Pakistan-Australia Blind Cricket Tournament, a clear example of providing equal opportunities for female students.

Dr. Anila Kamal further shared that Rawalpindi Women University successfully hosted the All Pakistan Women Rowing Inter-University Championship, which saw the participation of 14 teams from across the country. The university also hosted the All Pakistan Chess Inter-University Championship with 21 teams, and organized the Prime Minister Talent Hunt Judo Federal Women’s Event in Islamabad, Gilgit, Skardu, and Mirpur, where a student won a national silver medal. The university also participated in the 47th All Pakistan Badminton Inter-University Championship.

Dr. Kamal mentioned that Rawalpindi Women University athletes have achieved remarkable success in various national and inter-university competitions, including 3 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 8 bronze medals. In the 36th Rowing Championship, two students won gold medals, and four students received scholarships for outstanding performance from the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

At the conclusion of the event, prizes were awarded to students, faculty, and staff who performed exceptionally in the competitions. Dr. Huma Fawad, Director of Student Affairs, thanked all participants for their involvement and contribution to the success of the event.
