FIA Uncovers Human Trafficking Network in Gujarat After Mauritanian Boat Tragedy

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has uncovered a human trafficking ring in Gujarat, led by Ghulam Fatima and her three sons, following the tragic Mauritanian boat incident. The victims, promised entry to Spain, were abandoned at sea after conflicts with smugglers. Fatima and her sons orchestrated a new trafficking route through Senegal, charging migrants between Rs2.5 to Rs4 million.

FIA officials have arrested Fatima, who admitted to handling funds and managing transactions through her sons’ accounts. Investigations revealed one son, Khawar, led a group to Senegal that was later smuggled to Mauritania. Authorities are also probing the disappearance of another son, Farhan, after the tragedy.

FIA has filed three cases in Gujarat and Gujranwala. Meanwhile, the Pakistani embassy in Morocco is assisting with survivor identification and repatriation of bodies. A four-member committee will soon head to Morocco to expedite the investigation.
