The World Justice Project’s (WJP) 2024 Rule of Law Index reveals a slight improvement for Pakistan, as the country has climbed to 129th place among the 142 nations evaluated.
Though this is an increase from its 2023 position of 130th, Pakistan still faces significant challenges across critical areas, such as civil and criminal justice, protection of fundamental rights, transparency in government, and regulatory enforcement.
This report provides an essential analysis of Pakistan’s justice and governance systems, shedding light on persistent issues like corruption and safety concerns. Pakistan ranks 140th globally in order and security, placing it among the three lowest-ranked countries in this category, which assesses the control of crime, defense against armed conflict, and nonviolent dispute resolution.
Among the South Asian countries assessed, Pakistan holds the fifth position out of six, underscoring its ongoing difficulties in enforcing the rule of law. Although Pakistan’s overall score steadily declined from 2019 to 2023, the 2024 findings suggest the beginning of a positive shift following years of downward trends.

– Absence of Corruption: 124th worldwide, 5th in South Asia
– Constraints on Government Powers: 103rd worldwide, 4th in South Asia
