Rachin Ravindra Shines with Century in Front of Family in Bengaluru

New Zealand Batter Proud After Special Moment in Parents' Hometown

New Zealand batter Rachin Ravindra shared his pride after hitting a century in front of his father and family in Bengaluru, the hometown of his parents.

On the third day of the first Test, Ravindra’s impressive score of 134 bolstered New Zealand, giving them a strong lead of 356 runs.

Reflecting on the milestone, Ravindra said, “It’s really special. Having my dad in the stands meant a lot. A large part of my family was watching too. I know they’re incredibly proud, and it feels great that they could see a family member perform in their hometown. It’s an amazing feeling.”

At 24, Ravindra displayed his batting talent, lifting New Zealand from a precarious 233-7 to 402 all out, with help from Tim Southee, who added 65 runs. He handled the challenges posed by Indian spinners Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, making the most of the scoring chances on a good wicket.

Despite the pressure of playing against India in their home conditions, Ravindra’s past successes, including his standout performance in last year’s ODI World Cup and his IPL debut, helped him regain his composure. He credited these experiences for settling his nerves.

Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav praised Ravindra’s technique and comfort against spin, hoping he maintains his form through the series. The second Test is scheduled for October 24 in Pune, followed by the third Test on November 1 in Mumbai.
