Lahore High Court Summons Punjab IG Over Campus Harassment Incident
Lahore-(Staff Reporter): The Lahore High Court (LHC) has summoned Punjab Inspector General (IG) Dr. Usman Anwar and Advocate General Punjab for a hearing on Friday (tomorrow) regarding the issue of student harassment in educational institutions.
During the hearing on campus harassment, LHC Chief Justice Aalia Neelum questioned Punjab IG Dr. Usman Anwar, expressing concern over the failure to stop the circulation of pictures and videos of a female student. The Chief Justice remarked, “The girl’s life has been ruined. The IG must explain why the video was not prevented from spreading.”
Chief Justice Neelum further questioned how the Punjab IG could be unaware, allowing the images and videos to be shared. She also emphasized that the Anti-Rape Act prohibits the publication of a victim’s identity.
A counsel pointed out that reports of the alleged rape of a female student at a private college had led to damage to the institution’s property.
