Khairpur Poisoning Case: Clarity Emerges Surrounding the Deaths of 13 Relatives

Two suspects have been apprehended for allegedly poisoning 13 individuals in the village of Haibat Brohi, Pir Goth, located in Khairpur district, Sindh, following a declined marriage proposal.

The suspects, Shaista and Amir Bakhsh, confessed to adding poison to flour in retaliation for the marriage rejection. The police have stated that their investigation is ongoing, and they have pledged to apprehend any additional individuals involved in the incident.

Local authorities had formed a medical board to investigate the cause of the poisoning. A report from the board, released ten days ago, confirmed that the victims had indeed been poisoned, leading the police to initiate a thorough investigation under the direction of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Khairpur, Dr. Samiullah Soomro.

The tragic events unfolded after the victims consumed a meal that resulted in severe health complications, necessitating their urgent transfer to the Civil Hospital in Khairpur. Unfortunately, despite medical intervention, all 13 family members passed away due to their condition.

The deceased were members of the Gul Baig Brohi family, which included Gul Bek, his wife, three sons, five daughters, a brother, a son-in-law, and a relative. All of the deceased were cousins, and the incident transpired after Gul Baig’s family declined Shaista’s marriage proposal.

Bakhsh reportedly obtained the poison from an external source, and it was later revealed that his own father was also among the deceased.
