Islamabad-(Mudassar Iqbal)-Federal Information Minister Ataullah Tarar held a crucial discussion in Islamabad, addressing the media on various key issues. The conversation centered around Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq’s letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, emphasizing the supremacy of Parliament.
Tarar praised Sadiq’s tenure as Speaker, highlighting his impartiality and commitment to upholding members’ rights. “Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has always done justice to the Speaker’s chair, maintaining a good attitude with all parties in Parliament,” Tarar noted. He added that Sadiq has always ensured that no member’s rights are violated.
The Information Minister emphasized that political parties have consistently supported the Speaker’s decisions, demonstrating the trust and confidence in his leadership. Tarar described Sadiq’s letter to the Election Commission as a significant milestone, reaffirming Parliament’s authority.
Tarar stressed that Parliament is empowered to legislate in the Constitution, and this authority is not vested in any other institution. “Parliament is the supreme body,” he asserted.
Regarding the Supreme Court’s interpretation of Article 63A, Tarar expressed concerns, stating that it amounts to rewriting the Constitution. “How can a member who joins a party rejoin another party?” he questioned.
The Information Minister also criticized the court verdict on reserved seats, pointing out that it raises numerous questions. “We commend the Speaker for the step taken today,” Tarar said.
He reiterated that no institution has the right to interpret the Constitution at will and attempt to weaken Parliament. “The Constitution and law are the rights of the elected representatives of the people,” Tarar concluded.
