Diplomatic Row: Afghan Consul General Disrespects Pakistani National Anthem.Information Minister Atta Tarar has strongly condemned the actions of Afghan Consul General Hafiz Mohibullah Shakir, who remained seated during Pakistan’s national anthem at the Rehmat-ul-Alameen Conference in Peshawar ¹. This incident has sparked widespread outrage, with many criticizing PTI’s Ali Amin Gandapur for his role in the diplomatic tensions with Afghanistan.
Tarar emphasized that Gandapur’s call for direct talks with Afghanistan on behalf of the province was misguided and lacked patriotism. He stated that if Gandapur had prioritized national interests, this incident would not have occurred.
The incident has raised questions about the Afghan Consulate’s intentions and the effectiveness of Gandapur’s diplomatic efforts. The government has vowed to take action against the Afghan Consul General for his disrespect towards Pakistan’s national anthem.

Earlier, A controversy has erupted after Afghan Consul General Mohibullah Shakir refused to stand during Pakistan’s national anthem at the Qaumi Rahmat Lal Alamin conference in Peshawar. This blatant disregard for diplomatic etiquette has sparked outrage among Pakistani authorities and citizens, with many demanding Shakir’s expulsion from the country.
The Afghan Consulate has since issued a statement clarifying that the desecration and disrespect of the Pakistani national anthem was not intentional. According to Shahidullah, spokesperson for the Afghan Consulate in Peshawar, the consul general did not stand due to the presence of music in the national anthem, which is banned in Afghanistan .
However, this explanation has failed to placate Pakistani officials, who have condemned Shakir’s actions as “reprehensible” .The Foreign Office has summoned the Afghan Governor to issue a protest letter, and experts are calling for action to be taken against Shakir to prevent future incidents.
