Cyclone Triggers Flood Alert in Coastal Regions of Pakistan
Wind Speeds Up to 80 km/h Expected in Affected Regions
Pakistan-The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a flood alert for the coastal regions of Sindh and Balochistan due to the ongoing cyclone, which has now shifted westward from Pakistan’s coast.
According to the NDMA, the cyclone is expected to continue its movement west and southwest, bringing strong winds and heavy rain. The authority has warned that wind speeds could reach 60 to 80 kilometers per hour in areas such as Hyderabad, Jamshoro, and Dadu. The Karachi division, along with Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, Hyderabad, Matiari, Jamshoro, and Dadu, is anticipated to experience heavy rainfall through tonight.
The NDMA also noted that similar severe weather, including strong winds and heavy rain, is likely to affect Hub, Lasbela, Awaran, Kech, and Gwadar. Due to these conditions, the NDMA has advised residents to avoid coastal areas and seashores until the situation improves. The authority is actively monitoring the situation and working with local administrations to manage potential risks.

Punjab on Alert
In Punjab, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has predicted rain across most districts in the coming 24 hours. The PDMA spokesperson confirmed that water levels in the major rivers and canals, including the Indus, Chenab, Ravi, Jhelum, and Sutlej, are currently normal.
However, the Nullah Basantar in Narowal is experiencing low-level flooding, and the PDMA is on high alert, especially in Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan, where hill torrents could present a risk. The PDMA, in coordination with local authorities, is ready to handle any emergencies to ensure residents’ safety.
Water levels at Mangla Dam and Tarbela Dam are reported at 74% and 100% capacity, respectively, while Indian dams have water levels up to 60%, according to the PDMA.
Damage Report from Quetta
In Quetta, recent heavy rains have caused substantial damage, with seven houses and an educational institution affected in the last 24 hours. The PDMA has been engaged in rescue efforts, successfully saving five people from floodwaters in Lasbela.
