Internet Slows Down: Dual Submarine Cable Faults Disrupt Services
Islamabad-Internet Slows Down: Dual Submarine Cable Faults Disrupt Services, Pakistan is experiencing internet slowness and degraded services due to faults in two major submarine cables: AAE-1 and SMW4. The AAE-1 cable is facing a 250G outage due to rerouting issues in Iran and Qatar, expected to be resolved by August 27, 2024. Meanwhile, the SMW4 cable has been malfunctioning since June 18, 2024, due to faults near Karachi, with no restoration timeline announced yet.
To mitigate the issue, internet traffic is being managed through AAE-1 and IMWE (with a combined capacity of 4350G), where a portion of AAE-1 traffic is redirected to IMWE in case of congestion or issues. However, this has resulted in slower internet speeds and degraded services nationwide.
