Punjab Announces Two Weekly Holidays for Government Schools, Plans for Extended Teaching Hours
Lahore: Punjab Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has declared two holidays per week for government schools, aiming to optimize both student learning and teacher development.
Under this new initiative, schools will remain closed on Saturdays, with a proposal to extend daily teaching hours from Monday to Friday currently under consideration. The additional Saturday holiday will be dedicated to phased teacher training sessions.
Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat emphasized the importance of teachers’ feedback on utilizing weekends for professional development and lesson planning. He acknowledged the multifaceted roles teachers play and stressed the government’s commitment to addressing their needs, including resolving promotion-related issues soon.
This strategic move aims to enhance educational quality while ensuring teachers have adequate time for capacity building and planning, promising a balanced approach to education in Punjab.
