Lahore(Sports Reprter);Pakistan national cricket team captain, Babar Azam, has filed a defamation lawsuit against senior anchor Mubasher Luqman. YouTubers and former cricketers for accusing him of match-fixing after the T20 World Cup debacle.

Team Green has been facing backlash from fans and former players since Pakistan’s shocking early elimination from the mega cricket event. Some of them are coining conspiracies, accusing the players of being involved in match-fixing, while others are calling for sweeping changes in the team.

A social media campaign is also being run against the national players, including Babar Azam, after their unimpressive performance in the world cup matches.

Sources said Babar Azam had started consultation with his legal team and he was expected to send legal notices to the YouTubers and ex-cricketers over the allegations.

Meanwhile, the PCB legal department has also started collecting statements of the social media influencers and former players to take an action against them.

Earlier, Babar Azam said the team’s batting let them down at the Twenty20 World Cup and apologised to fans for failing to reach the Super Eight stage.

Pakistan fell to the tournament’s biggest upset when the United States, a tier-two member of the game, beat the 2009 champions via Super Over. Defeat by arch-rivals India then left Babar’s side with a mountain to climb to advance.

India and the US bagged the two Super Eight slots from Group A while Pakistan finished third after laboured three-wicket victory against Ireland.

“Thank you so much for supporting us, and sorry for that performance…,” Babar said after the match in Florida.

“I know the fans and the team are saddened by this. It is not any one player’s fault. We all made a mistake.”
