Pakistan, Canada Discuss Border Security and Immigration Reforms

Canadian High Commissioner meets Interior Minster,

ISLAMABAD: Canadian High Commissioner Leslie Scanlon met with Interior Minister and Narcotics Control Mohsin Naqvi on Friday to discuss a range of mutual interests.

Upon her arrival at the Ministry of Interior, Naqvi extended a warm welcome to Scanlon. The two officials engaged in discussions on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing critical issues such as border security, immigration, illegal human trafficking, and drug trafficking.

Naqvi highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to securing its borders and curbing illegal activities. He emphasized ongoing efforts to enhance the efficiency of relevant institutions and innovate the immigration system. Improvements to the electronic travel authorization system, which will enable visa issuance within 24 hours, were also discussed.

The Interior Minister offered Pakistan’s support in providing skilled manpower to Canada, suggesting that such migration could help reduce illegal human trafficking. He reassured Scanlon that all minorities in Pakistan enjoy equal rights under the Constitution, and the government is dedicated to protecting these rights.

Naqvi also mentioned Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate the migration of Afghan refugees to Canada. The Canadian High Commissioner expressed gratitude for the cooperation extended by Pakistan in various fields.

The meeting was attended by high officials from the Canadian High Commission, Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Ali Agha, and senior officials from the Ministry of Interior.
