Justice Minallah asks PM to file reference against “black sheep
LHC to hear contempt petition against PM Shehbaz today
Islamabad/Lahore; A five-member SC larger bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and comprising Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Justice Minallah and Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi conducted the hearing on NAB amendment case.
During the hearing, Justice Mandokhail, while interacting with Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Usman Awan, observed that the prime minister labelled the judges as “black sheep”.
“If you like the decision then a judge is fine but if you dislike the verdict then a judge becomes black sheep,” Justice Mandokhail remarked.
Responding to the remarks, the AGP clarified that the PM did not label the “honourable judges” as black sheep. “This [black sheep remarks] was not aimed at incumbent judges,” the AGP added.
Justice Minallah also apparently expressed annoyance over the remarks, saying: “We are not black sheep [but] we are black bumble bee so PM can get the benefit of doubt.”
The judge also told the AGP to ask the premier to file reference against “black sheep” in the judiciary.
While,
LHC Justice Muhammad Waheed Khan will hear the contempt petition on Friday (tomorrow) in the petition at Justice A.R Cornelius Block Court 37.
The federation was made a party through the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister.
A female petition Woman Ashba Kamran filed a contempt of court petition against the Prime Minister.
“Shahbaz Sharif used inappropriate words regarding judges. Contempt of court action should be taken against Shehbaz Sharif,” the petition prayed to the provincial apex court.
The petition said she found concern and disappointment regarding the recent statement made by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during the general council meeting of PMLN on May 28.
“During his address, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif referred to the judiciary as black sheep, a statement that not only lacks decorum but also undermines the integrity and independence of the judiciary, the cornerstone of our democratic system, this the petitioner is a citizen of Pakistan has locus standi to file this writ petition regarding a regarding PM Shehbaz Sharif’s contemptuous statement towards the judiciary.
The petitioner found the statement deeply troubling that a high-ranking official would openly disparage the judiciary, an institution tasked with safeguarding citizens’ rights and freedoms and ensuring government accountability.

The writ petition was filed under Article 199 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
The petitioner said derogatory remarks made by PM Shehbaz constitute contempt of court and pose a significant threat to the credibility and authority of the judiciary.
“Appropriate action must be taken to address this matter and uphold the dignity of the judiciary,,,” the petition reads.
The petitioner said the act of PM Shehbaz aggrieved her.
