CARDIFF: England captain Jos Buttler will miss the third T20I against Pakistan today on Tuesday in Cardiff to be with his wife for the birth of their third child.
Buttler played a crucial role in England’s 23-run win over Pakistan in the second match of the series at Edgbaston on Saturday, scoring an impressive 84. The first match in Leeds was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to rain. Following the victory, Buttler left the squad to be with his wife as they await the arrival of their new baby, Sky News reported.
In Buttler’s absence, vice-captain Moeen Ali is likely to lead the side at Sophia Gardens. It remains to be seen if Buttler will return for the fourth and final T20I at The Oval on Thursday.
“England have been planning for this, as much as you can plan for the birth of a child,” said Sky Sports News reporter James Cole. “There’s a chance he could return for the final T20I at The Oval. Moeen Ali, as vice-captain, is expected to take over the captaincy.”

Will Jacks, who recently made a splash in the Indian Premier League with a stunning unbeaten century for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, is a potential candidate to open the batting in Buttler’s place. Jacks has experience in the opening role and has formed a strong partnership with Phil Salt in franchise cricket.
“I think we’re both very comfortable,” Jacks said. “Phil and I have played a lot of cricket together – franchise cricket especially, which helps when we come to England.”
