87 Perish in Maritime Strike; Iran Warns of Targeting Israeli Interests Abroad
In phone call with Iran's FM, Qatar's PM calls for 'immediate halt' to attacks on Gulf nations
Tehran/Washington-(Specail Correspondent/Web Desk)-A senior Iranian armed forces official — Brig. Gen. Abolfazl Shekarchi — issued a stark warning that if Israel attacks Iran’s diplomatic mission in Lebanon, then all Israeli embassies around the world would be treated as “legitimate targets.” This was reported by multiple outlets including AFP and semi‑official Iranian media.
A United States submarine has sunk an Iranian naval warship off Sri Lanka’s southern coast, resulting in the deaths of dozens of sailors and significantly escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.
Sri Lanka’s Deputy Foreign Minister confirmed that the vessel was the frigate IRIS Dena, which was reportedly returning to Iran from a port in eastern India at the time of the incident.
The strike occurred deep in the Indian Ocean, far from the Gulf region where U.S. and Israeli forces have been conducting operations against Iran, and where Tehran has been responding with missile and drone attacks.
Speaking at the Pentagon, U.S. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said the Iranian vessel had assumed it was secure in international waters. He stated that an American submarine targeted and destroyed it with a torpedo.
Authorities in the southern Sri Lankan port city of Galle reported that 87 bodies were recovered and transported to hospitals by military rescue teams responding to an early morning distress call.
Officials further stated that 32 individuals were rescued and are currently receiving medical treatment, while approximately 60 personnel remain missing from the estimated crew of 180 aboard the warship.

Qatar’s prime minister condemned Iran’s attacks on Gulf states in a call with Tehran’s foreign minister Wednesday, the first high-level contact since the Islamic republic launched its missile and drone campaign.
Qatari premier Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani accused Iran of seeking to “harm its neighbours and drag them into a war that is not theirs”, on the call with Iran’s Abbas Araghchi, according to a statement by Qatar’s foreign ministry.
The Qatari prime minister urged “an immediate halt to these attacks” on the call and said Iran had “struck civilian and residential areas” despite Araghchi´s assertion that the Iranian missile attacks were directed at US interests and did not target the State of Qatar”
