80 Govt Vehicles Go Missing from KP Livestock Department, Audit Reveals

The audit has flagged the issue as a major lapse in transparency and asset management.

PESHAWAR – In a new instance of alleged misappropriation of public assets, 80 government vehicles have gone missing from the Livestock Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the department’s audit report for the financial year 2023–24.

The report reveals that more than 200 vehicles were purchased between 2007 and 2021 under various development projects. However, during the recent audit, records for 80 of these vehicles could not be produced by the department.

Despite being officially registered under the name of the Director General Livestock in the Excise Department’s database, the missing vehicles were not found in any departmental office or field operation across the province, raising serious concerns about internal accountability and oversight.

The audit has flagged the issue as a major lapse in transparency and asset management. It has called for urgent measures to trace the whereabouts of the vehicles and to hold those responsible accountable.

Provincial Minister for Livestock, Fazal Hakim, confirmed that official letters have been dispatched to relevant authorities to ensure the recovery of the vehicles. He also announced the formation of an inquiry committee, led by the Secretary of Livestock, to conduct a detailed investigation.

“The matter is being taken seriously, and no one found responsible will be spared,” the minister assured.

The incident adds to growing concerns about mismanagement in government departments and has sparked calls for stronger checks and reforms to prevent such losses of public assets in the future.
