6.2 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Istanbul, Shakes Parts of Europe

Quake Felt in Turkey and Europe, Authorities on Alert

Istanbul — A powerful earthquake struck northwestern Turkey on Tuesday, causing panic among residents and tremors felt in several neighboring European countries.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake originated in the inland Sea of Marmara near the town of Silivri, a suburb of Istanbul. The quake registered a magnitude of 6.2, with its epicenter located 21 kilometers southeast of Marmara Ereğlisi at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Strong tremors were felt across Istanbul and surrounding provinces, prompting people to rush out of buildings in fear. However, no immediate reports of casualties or property damage have been received.

In addition to Turkey, the quake’s tremors were felt in several European countries including Ukraine, Greece, Romania, and Bulgaria, highlighting the quake’s broad impact across the region. Authorities continue to monitor the situation for any aftershocks or emerging reports of damage.
