28 people martyred and 150 injured, bomb blast inside mosque in Police Lines

Peshawar: (Staff Reporter) A bomb blast inside a mosque in the Police Lines today left 150 people injured and 28 martyred. A suicide bomber exploded himself during Zuhr prayers. Police and rescuers shifted the injured to the Lady Reading Hospital.

According to the source, Lady Reading Hospital spokesman Muhammad Asim Khan said “We are receiving more dead bodies, so far we have received 28 dead bodies and more than 140 wounded.”

As per details, Peshawar Deputy Commissioner Shafiullah Khan said that “I am here at the scene and rescue work is ongoing. More bodies are being taken out. Currently our priority is to save people buried under the debris.” Twenty-seven of the dead people were said to be policemen. The mosque’s prayer leader was also among the killed persons.

Meanwhile confirming the blast was a suicide hit, security officials said the bomber was standing in the first row while the Zuhr prayers were being offered. He then exploded himself during the prayers. The explosion was so huge that it completely leveled a section of the mosque and damaged other parts.

Furthermore the authorities, who are assessing the nature of the blast, immediately cordoned off the area. Videos and pictures shared by social media users show horrific scenes as the injured drenched in blood were shifted to local medical centre for first aid.

Moreover journalists at the scene saw rescue workers carry two dead bodies away in an ambulance. Part of the mosque roof and wall structure had collapsed, and bloodied survivors were limping away from the wreckage.
