Rawalpindi Court Sentences 47 PTI Leaders for GHQ Attack and Property Seizure

GHQ Attack – (Web Desk) – In a major decision, a Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court gave 47 PTI leaders ten years in prison each for their role in the GHQ attack. Each of them was also fined Rs500,000. The court ordered that the properties of the convicts be seized.

The list of leaders sentenced includes Omar Ayub Khan, Zartaj Gul, Murad Saeed, Shibli Faraz, Hammad Azhar, Kanwal Shauzab, Sheikh Rashid Shafiq, Shehbaz Gil, Zulfi Bukhari, Muhammad Ahmad Chattha, Rai Hassan Nawaz, and Rai Muhammad Murtaza.

These leaders had earlier been declared proclaimed offenders. The verdict marks a major step in the ongoing case.

Thousands of people had taken to streets on May 9, 2023 immediately after hearing the news about the arrest of their leader, PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan.

They vandalized government and military installations, and in some cases set them on fire.

They also damaged the memorials of martyrs of the Pakistan Army.
