4.8 magnitude earthquake hits Lahore & surrounding areas

LAHORE: A 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck several cities across Punjab on Thursday, including Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Kharian, Jhelum, and Sarai Alamgir. The earthquake, which occurred just after noon, caused panic among residents but authorities have confirmed that there have been no reports of casualties or significant damage to property.

The tremors, which originated near Kharian in the Gujrat district, were felt throughout the region, with some areas experiencing the strongest shaking. The earthquake’s depth was recorded at 15 kilometers. In Lahore and nearby cities, buildings were visibly shaken, and there were brief power outages, though no major structural damage has been reported.

In the wake of the tremors, many people rushed out of their homes in fear and sought refuge in open spaces, with some reciting verses from the Holy Quran for reassurance. Local authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, but no loss of life or major destruction has been reported from Lahore or its neighboring areas.
