Eight Arrested as Investigation Begins into Ibadan School Fair Stampede

Abuja: A tragic stampede during a school fair in Ibadan, southwestern Nigeria, has resulted in the deaths of 35 children and left six others seriously injured. The incident occurred on Wednesday at the Basorun Islamic High School, where the event was organized by the Wings Foundation and Agidigbo FM radio.

According to the Oyo State Police Command, eight individuals have been arrested in connection with the tragedy, including the main sponsor of the event. The Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde expressed his condolences, writing on X: “Our hearts remain with the families and loved ones impacted by this tragedy. May the souls of the departed rest in peace. We sympathize with the parents whose joy has suddenly been turned to mourning.”
