Lahore/Rawalpindi (Tahir Chudary)_Police arrested another key PTI leader during ongoing cackdown on Sunday,
A Crimes Investigation Agency (CIA) police Iqbal Town team took Mian Rasheed into custody from a locality in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA).
The PTI leader remained the provincial minister in the tenure of Sardar Usman Bozdar as the Punjab chief minister. Major key leaders Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, Chaudhy Fawad Hussian, Omer Sarfraz Cheema, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Musarrat Cheema and others.
In another action, another police team also detained Faisal Mehar, the secretary of PTI leader Hammad Azhar, from his Sabzazar residence at the crack of dawn.
Following the violent protests, arson and vandalism by supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf workers after the arrest of Imran Khan, the number of criminals arrested in the last five days has reached 3,185.
According to the Punjab government, more than 300 culprits who attacked the Corps Commander House (Jinnah House) have been arrested, while the process of profiling more than 300 others has also been completed.
The Punjab Police spokesman claimed the identification of the culprits is under way with the help of social media accounts and CCTV footage.
The spokesman further said 152 police officers were seriously injured in the violent incidents across Punjab, while 94 vehicles belonging to the department were damaged and set on fire.
The authorities said 22 government buildings, including police stations, were severely damaged.
The spokesman further said 27 vehicles of the Lahore police, 21 of Faisalabad police and 19 vehicles belonging to the Rawalpindi police were destroyed during the protests of May 9.
Moreover, nine vehicles of the Mianwali police, five of Sialkot and three of Gujranwala police were destroyed by the protesters, the spokesman said.
Four vehicles of the Multan police, one each of Attock, Jhang and Toba Tek Singh police were also severely damaged.
Moreover, three Police Constabulary vehicles and eight private vehicles were also destroyed by the miscreants, spokesperson Punjab Police.
Identification complete
Meanwhile, the identification of 20 PTI workers involved in arson and vandalism in Faisalabad following Imran Khan’s arrest on May 9 has been completed
The suspects include PTI West Punjab Region President Faizullah Kamuka, as well as mayoral candidate Rana Zahid Mehmood, Shehbaz Amir Ali and Shehryar Ali.
All the identified suspects are wanted by the police.
The accused have been identified as Afshan Kamran, Fatima Ahsan, Shabana Fayyaz, Abid Malik, Asim Khursheed, Zahid Ali Shah Gillani, Kashif Khan, Muneeza Ahmed, Jahangir Ahmed, Mohammad Usman Qureshi, Abubakar Ahmed, Pirzada Shehbaz, Ansar Javed and Hammad Khan.
Law enforcement agencies tightening noose against those involved vandalizing government and military properties and rioting, sources said.
Law enforcement raiding teams have become active against the accused, sources said.
The police on Saturday arrested a suspect involved in attack on the GHQ in Rawalpindi during violent protests following arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
Sources yesterday told that the police have arrested a suspect – identified as Idrees – for his alleged involvement in attack on the General Headquarters.
Sources claimed that the arrested suspect – who was identified through videos on social media – was an employee of local government.
Meanwhile, the police arrested a former PTI Member of Punjab Assembly (MPA) from Toba Tek Singh, Javed Akram.
The PTI leader’s family members claimed that Akram’s son and daughter-in-law were also arrested from premises of the Lahore High Court (LHC).
In a statement, the police said the arrested individuals were involved in arson attack on Corps Commander House.
Rawalpindi police has constituted a special investigation team to probe the attack on the main gate of the GHQ by violent protesters.
A special investigation team has been GHQ in Rawalpindi being headed by Rawalpindi SSP (Investigation) Zunaira Azfar.
