Omar Abdullah Calls Attack One of Deadliest on Tourists in Recent Years
Pahalgam — At least 25 people were killed in a brutal shooting by unidentified assailants at the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The attack, which took place at Baisaran Meadows, has left authorities and locals in shock, with fears that the death toll may continue to rise.
According to reports from Indian media, the gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on tourists enjoying their visit to the area before fleeing the scene. However, due to a delayed emergency response and lack of immediate medical assistance, the number of fatalities surged to 20 at the site of the attack. Later updates from Kashmir Media Service confirmed the tragic death of at least 25 people.
Chief Minister of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, expressed his horror at the incident, calling it one of the deadliest attacks on tourists in recent years. “This is a tragic day for Kashmir and for those who lost their loved ones in this senseless act of violence,” he said in a statement.
Despite heavy security measures and additional police deployment in anticipation of an influx of tourists, the attack occurred, raising questions about the effectiveness of the region’s security arrangements.
