2,276 PTI activists arrested in Lahore amid Islamabad protest

Lahore: A significant law enforcement operation has resulted in the arrest of 2,276 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers across six divisions of Lahore, in connection with the party’s recent call for protests in Islamabad.

From November 20 to 27, the police conducted widespread operations, leading to the following breakdown of arrests:

  • City Division: 726 workers arrested
  • Cantt Division: 322 workers arrested
  • Civil Lines Division: 248 workers arrested
  • Saddar Division: 286 workers arrested
  • Iqbal Town Division: 314 workers arrested

Among those arrested, 653 individuals have been nominated in various criminal cases, and 422 have been handed over to the Investigation Wing for further legal action.

This comes after Islamabad’s Inspector General of Police, Ali Nasir Rizvi, revealed that a joint operation by the police and Rangers in Islamabad led to the arrest of 954 protesters over three days, including 610 on a single day (Tuesday). The operation also saw the seizure of 210 vehicles and a large number of weapons, allegedly brought by some protesters who were reportedly involved in violent attacks on law enforcement personnel.

Rizvi added that 71 officers were injured in the course of the protests, 52 of whom were hurt on Tuesday alone. Tragically, three Rangers personnel were martyred, and the financial losses from the protests have been estimated in billions of rupees.

The arrests and operations reflect the ongoing crackdown on PTI supporters linked to violent protests, underscoring the growing tension in Islamabad and Lahore.
