19-member federal cabinet takes oath

Islamabad: In a significant development for the Pakistani government, the 19-member federal cabinet led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially taken oath of office at the President House in Islamabad. President Asif Ali Zardari administered the oath to the newly appointed ministers during a ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr.

The newly sworn-in cabinet members include prominent figures such as Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Tanvir, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Chaudhry Salik, Aleem Khan, and Jam Kamal, among others. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had recommended these lawmakers to President Zardari for their appointment as federal ministers.

While the allotment of ministries is yet to be confirmed, sources suggest that experienced figures such as Ishaq Dar, Muhammad Aurangzeb Khan, and Shamshad Akhtar are likely to play crucial roles in the cabinet. Dar, a seasoned politician and former finance minister, is expected to be appointed as the foreign minister, while Aurangzeb and Akhtar may serve as advisers to the prime minister on finance and revenue, respectively.

Additionally, key positions in various ministries are anticipated to be filled by individuals such as Khawaja Muhammad Asif for defense, Ahsan Iqbal for planning, and Musadik Malik for energy. Jalil Abbas Jilani and Tariq Fatemi are expected to take on roles as advisers and special assistants on foreign affairs, with Mohsin Naqvi appointed as an adviser on the interior ministry.
