18,000 Seminaries Successfully Registered Under DGRE

The Ministry of Education emphasized that seminaries are educational institutions under its jurisdiction, not the Ministry of Industry.

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Education has successfully registered 18,000 seminaries across Pakistan, marking a significant milestone in the government’s effort to formalize the registration of madrassas. The registration process, which had long been needed, involved extensive consultations with madrassa administrations, scholars, and political leaders.

Initially, many madrassa leaders were hesitant to register due to concerns over legal complexities and the lengthy procedures involved. However, after years of effort, the Directorate General of Religious Education (DGRE) under the Ministry of Education developed a one-window system, making the process more efficient and accessible.

Despite some challenges, including debates over the involvement of the Ministry of Industry in the registration process, the government has continued with the registration initiative. Some critics raised concerns that shifting responsibilities between ministries could delay or undo the progress made, but the Ministry of Education has clarified that the registration process remains intact.

The Ministry of Education emphasized that seminaries are educational institutions under its jurisdiction, not the Ministry of Industry. The registration system has been designed to streamline the process and eliminate unnecessary legal hurdles, making it easier for madrassas to comply.

This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to addressing the concerns of religious schools while adhering to established regulations and processes. The DGRE has also launched an extensive awareness campaign to support seminaries in completing their registration smoothly.
