Punjab Pilgrims Involved in Fatal Accidents on Way to Sehwan Sharif

KHAIRPUR– At least 15 people were killed and 40 others injured in two separate accidents in interior Sindh involving pilgrims on their way to Sehwan Sharif to attend the Urs celebrations of Sufi saint Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar.

The first tragic incident occurred near Ranipur, where a bus carrying pilgrims from Punjab crashed on the National Highway in Khairpur. Police reported that nine people lost their lives, while 30 others were injured in the accident. According to authorities, the accident occurred due to overspeeding.

In a second incident, a van carrying pilgrims collided with a tractor-trailer in Nawabshah’s Qazi Ahmed Town. The crash claimed six lives, and 10 passengers were injured. The victims were transported to the Qazi Ahmed Tehsil Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

The pilgrims, who were traveling from Punjab, were en route to Sehwan Sharif for the Urs celebrations when the accidents occurred.

The Sindh government had earlier announced a public holiday on February 19 for the annual Urs of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar. Thousands of devotees from across the country have already gathered in Sehwan Sharif to participate in the religious observances.
