14 dead after landslide in Sichuan, leaves 5 missing

The “collapse took place high on a mountain” at 6 am (2200 GMT Saturday) at a state-owned forestry station in Jinkouhe, near the city of Leshan, the local government said in an online statement.
China Media/Islamabad__Fourteen people were killed and five are missing following a landslide in Southwest China’s Sichuan province on Sunday, the local government said.
According to an official statement, the landslide took place on a mountain at 6 am at a state-owned forestry station in Jinkouhe district of the city of Leshan.
More than 180 people have been engaged in rescue work and the efforts are still underway.

The Leshan city was hit by heavy rain over the two days before the incident, weather tracking data indicated.
Earlier this year, at least four people were killed in a collapse at a coal mine in northern China, while the progress in the search for dozens who were missing was hampered by a massive landslide.
In September last year, rain, flash floods and mudslides threatened the search for dozens of people still missing days after a strong earthquake rocked mountainous southwest China, killing at least 82.
