In a statement posted on social media platform X, police said the situation has not yet been fully brought under control and advised citizens to remain cautious. Local media reported that several people were wounded in the shooting, while television channels aired footage showing victims lying on the ground as emergency services carried out rescue operations.

An eyewitness, 30-year-old Harry Wilson, told a local newspaper that he saw at least 10 people lying on the ground with blood scattered everywhere. Videos circulating on social media show people fleeing the beach after gunshots were heard, with police sirens audible in the background. Another video showed police restraining two individuals on a pedestrian bridge, while medical assistance was being provided to one of them.

A spokesperson for Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said the government is aware of the security situation at Bondi Beach and has appealed to the public to strictly follow police instructions.

The incident has revived memories of the 2014 Lindt Café siege in Sydney, when a gunman took 18 people hostage, resulting in the deaths of two hostages and the attacker after a prolonged standoff.
