Soldier martyred, 12 terrorists eliminated in North Waziristan IBO
Rawalpindi: In a decisive counter-terrorism operation, Pakistan’s security forces successfully eliminated 12 terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan district. The intelligence-based operation (IBO), carried out in the Hassan Khel area, was conducted based on reports of terrorist presence, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
During the operation, troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight, ultimately neutralizing 12 militants who had been actively involved in attacks against security forces and the targeted killing of innocent civilians. A cache of weapons and ammunition was also recovered from the slain militants. The military confirmed that sanitization efforts were underway to eliminate any remaining threats in the area.

Tragically, the operation also saw the sacrifice of a brave Pakistani soldier. Lance Naik Muhammad Ibrahim, 34, a resident of District Hangu, embraced martyrdom while displaying exceptional courage on the battlefield. His sacrifice stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment of Pakistan’s armed forces in their fight against terrorism.
The ISPR reaffirmed the military’s determination to rid the country of terrorism, stating that such operations are a necessary response to the growing militant threat. “Security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism from the country, and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” the statement read.
The operation is part of a broader counter-terrorism campaign as Pakistan faces a rising wave of militant attacks. January 2025 saw a 42% surge in terrorist incidents compared to the previous month, according to data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS). The report revealed 74 militant attacks nationwide, resulting in 91 fatalities, including 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants. Another 117 individuals were injured.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan remain the most affected provinces, with KP witnessing 46 deaths in its tribal districts and Balochistan suffering 26 fatalities in 24 attacks. Punjab, Sindh, and Islamabad also experienced minor security incidents, though with minimal casualties. The country also saw two suicide bombings in Balochistan, claimed by banned militant groups Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and Balochistan Liberation Army.
Despite the rising threat, Pakistan’s security forces remain steadfast in their mission to eliminate terrorism and ensure peace. The successful operation in North Waziristan highlights the army’s relentless efforts and unwavering resolve in protecting the nation from extremist elements.
