Preliminary Report on Quetta Railway Station Blast Points to Possible Suicide Attack

Pakistan Railways has issued an initial report regarding the explosion at Quetta railway station, suggesting that the blast may have been a suicide attack.

Police Surgeon Dr. Ayesha confirmed that the death toll has risen to 25, with 56 people receiving treatment at various hospitals. Among the deceased were a woman and five railway employees.

The blast occurred around 8:20 a.m. near the entrance of platform one. According to the report, the Quetta Control Office recorded the explosion at about 8:40 a.m. Fortunately, no train was stationed on platform one at the time.

The report further noted that the Jafar Express, scheduled to arrive at platform one at 8:30 a.m., was redirected to platform three for added security. Passengers on platform two were unharmed, as the blast appeared to be contained to the area near platform one. The Chaman passenger train, slated to depart from platform two at 8:30 a.m., departed on schedule.

Following the explosion, Railway Police, DSP Special Branch Railways Shahid Nawaz, and other officials quickly responded to the scene. Security teams conducted a thorough inspection of the Jafar Express, allowing it to depart at 10:10 a.m.

A help desk has been established at the Quetta Control Office to support passengers and their families. Rescue operations at the site are ongoing.

Officials reported that the blast happened as passengers were preparing to board trains. With emergency status declared at Quetta’s Civil Hospital, additional medical staff were mobilized. Many injured were brought to the trauma center for immediate care. At the time of the incident, two trains were preparing to depart, and the area was crowded with passengers.
