Punjab Expands CCD’s Mandate to Tackle Cybercrime, Drug Cartels, and Land Mafias
CCD’s internal systems are being digitized to improve transparency, speed, and coordination during investigations.
LAHORE: The Punjab government has significantly expanded the powers and responsibilities of the Counter Crime Department (CCD), granting it broader authority to combat cybercrime, online harassment of women, narcotics trafficking, and organized land grabbing groups across the province.
According to official sources, CCD will now serve as a central force in handling major cybercrime cases, including digital harassment, fraud, and hacking incidents. The department will also have the legal mandate to register FIRs, conduct arrests, and launch independent operations against drug traffickers and squatting mafias.
Crackdown on Organized Crime
Officials confirmed that CCD will build comprehensive records of organized land grabbing groups and will reopen several pending and cold cases previously stalled due to jurisdictional limitations. To bolster operational capabilities, CCD officers will be equipped with modern digital tools and enhanced access to data for advanced tracking and surveillance.
Digitization and Reform
As part of ongoing reforms, the CCD’s internal systems are being digitized to improve transparency, speed, and coordination during investigations. The use of digital case management and forensic tools is expected to significantly enhance the department’s efficiency.
Additionally, the provincial government has begun work on assigning new targets to CCD, with a strategic focus on disrupting online harassment networks, dismantling drug supply chains, and neutralizing land mafia operations through better inter-agency coordination.
The move reflects the government’s commitment to modernizing law enforcement and ensuring a safer, more secure environment for citizens across Punjab.
