In a major setback for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), eight former employees of the airline have won a significant unfair dismissal case in a London court.
The Croydon Court has ruled in favor of the ex-employees, ordering PIA to pay £5 million in compensation. These individuals had been terminated two years ago after serving the airline for periods ranging from five to 15 years.
The former employees contested their dismissal in court, arguing that PIA had violated the Employment Act and failed to follow British employment regulations during the termination process.
On the second day of the trial, key evidence was submitted, revealing that PIA had not adhered to British legal requirements when ending the contracts. The court concluded that PIA’s actions were unlawful, siding with the former staff members.
PIA has accepted the court’s ruling and agreed to pay £500,000 in compensation to each of the eight employees. This loss marks a significant blow to the struggling airline, adding to its existing challenges.
