The Baloch-2 well was spudded-in on February 24, 2024, and successfully drilled to a total depth of 3,920 meters True Vertical Depth (TVD) within the Sembar Formation. This exploration effort, conducted with in-house expertise and technical support from OGDCL’s Joint Venture Partners (JVPs), has yielded promising results. The well’s Drill Stem Test-3 has confirmed a flow rate of 6.8 Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMSCFD) of gas and 388 Barrels of Condensate per Day (BCPD).
The Sembar Formation is known for its hydrocarbon potential and is widely distributed across the Middle and Lower Indus basins of Pakistan. The discovery not only confirms the untapped potential of the Sembar Formation but also opens up a new exploratory play, paving the way for further exploration and development of hydrocarbon reserves in the Sinjhoro Block. OGDCL is proactively planning to re-enter existing shut-in wells within the area and swiftly develop the full potential of the Sembar Formation to contribute to the energy security and economic growth of Pakistan.
